Frequently Asked Questions
The questions we get asked most often before a booking. If yours is not here, call us on 0419 237 592 or send us a message and we will answer it straight.
What is paint protection film (PPF)?
PPF is a clear, self-healing urethane film we apply over your car's paint. It takes the hits that would otherwise chip or scratch the paint, from stone chips on the freeway to scuffs in a car park, and it does it without changing how the car looks. We fit it in packages from the front end through to full car coverage, all backed by a 10 year warranty.
What is the difference between PPF and a ceramic coating?
PPF is a physical film, so it is the only one of the two that will stop a stone chip or a deeper scratch. A coating is a liquid layer that bonds to the paint, so it adds gloss, repels water and dirt and makes washing easier, but it will not stop a rock. Plenty of our customers do both: film on the high impact panels, coating over the rest.
Should I choose a ceramic coating or a graphene coating?
Ceramic is a silica based coating that gives you high gloss, colour depth, a water repellent surface and UV and chemical resistance. Our graphene coating is the step up. It is graphene infused, 10H hardness, rated for five years, with better heat resistance so you get less water spotting, a slicker surface, and anti-static properties that keep dust off. The graphene package also includes a single stage paint correction and carries a 5 year warranty.
How long does paint protection film last?
Our PPF is a 10 year self-healing film and our packages come with a 10 year warranty. How it ages depends on how the car is used and looked after, which is something we talk through with you before we start.
Does paint protection film really self-heal?
Yes, for light marks. The film is made so fine scratches and swirls disappear with heat, whether that is a warm day, a hot wash, or a heat gun in the workshop. Damage deep enough to go through the film is a different story, which is exactly why we treat the film as a sacrificial layer protecting the paint underneath.
Can I change the colour of my car without repainting it?
Yes. Colour change PPF is a coloured version of the same self-healing protective film. You get the new colour and the protection at once, your original paint stays untouched underneath, and it can be removed later. Our full car colour change package carries a 10 year warranty.
Will PPF or a coating stop every scratch?
No, and anyone telling you otherwise is overselling it. Film absorbs stone chips and light scratches and self-heals the fine stuff. A coating helps with the swirls that come from washing and keeps the surface easier to clean. Neither will save a panel from a deep gouge or a trolley at full speed. What they do is take the everyday wear so your paint does not.
How dark can I legally tint my windows in NSW?
On a vehicle built after 1 January 1992, the front side windows must let through at least 35 per cent of light, and the rear side windows and rear windscreen at least 20 per cent. The windscreen itself cannot be tinted apart from a strip across the top. We fit to the legal limits and will show you what that actually looks like on your car before we start. Rules do change over time, so it is worth confirming the current NSW requirements if you are reading this well after it was written.
What is the difference between XPEL XR and XR PLUS window film?
Both are ceramic films, so they cut heat and UV without the signal interference you get from older metallic tints. XR PLUS is the higher specification of the two, with more infrared heat rejection, so the cabin stays noticeably cooler. Which one suits you usually comes down to how much time the car spends sitting in the sun.
Do you protect interiors as well as paint?
Yes. We coat leather seats, doors and steering wheels, textile carpets and mats, and dashboards. The coating puts an invisible barrier over the surface so spills and dirt sit on top instead of soaking in. It keeps the interior looking newer for longer and makes cleaning far easier.
Where are you based and which areas do you cover?
Our workshop is at Unit A8, 20 Picrite Close, Pemulwuy NSW 2145, in western Sydney. We are open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. We take work from right across Sydney, with a lot of our customers coming from Parramatta, Blacktown, Greystanes, Wetherill Park and the surrounding suburbs.
Should I get paint protection on a brand new car?
A new car is the best time to do it. The paint is at its best, so the film or coating goes onto a clean surface with nothing to correct first. If you can, book it in before or as soon as you take delivery, so the paint is protected from the first drive rather than after the first stone chip.
